Stephen Marley @La Zona Rosa

On Sunday, April 17th, Stephen Marley will be performing at La Zona Rosa. The doors open at 8:00 am, and the show is all ages, with tickets priced at $21.00.

Stephen Marley, the son of reggae legend, Bob Marley, has been performing since age 8, when Stephen took lead vocals on "Sugar Pie", which he also performed live at the 1982 Jamaica World Music Festival.  Stephen Marley has won five Grammy awards as an artist, and producer. Besides performing, Stephen Marley is also very well known for producing his brother, Damian Marley's three solo albums.

Did a man truly hack Times Square screens?

By now many of y'all must have seen the video on YouTube about a man taking over Times Square screens with his iPhone 4 and playing a video he had just made. In the video, he claims that he can take over the screen by having what he calls a transmitter plugged into the headphone jack of his iPhone and whenever he puts the receptor in front of a television screen, it overrides whatever is playing on the screen with the video on his iPhone. Yet, is this true? The slightly disappointing answer is no. As a matter of fact, the video was posted on YouTube in order to promote the upcoming movie, Limitless, without it seeming like an actual movie trailer. The video actually hardly hints that it’s a promotion for a movie. The only thing giving it away is that when the man held up a balloon with the “video receptor” to the TV screen, an actual movie trailer for limitless was playing. ThinkModo, the company that created the video says that they never actually hacked the screens, they just paid to have their stuff played and even “choreographed the timing just right so that the video playing on the iPhone in front of the camera would pop up at just the right time on the big screens when the man held up his fake device.” ThinkModo said that their reasons behind doing so is because they are exploring a new idea about advertising which is that “you don't have to wrap everything up in a bow and if you don't, people are going to be a lot more interested in you and what you're selling.” The mind-set seems to be true because the video has been viewed nearly 1.5 million times.

Cold War Kids @Stubb's

The Cold War Kids will be performing at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q in downtown Austin on Friday, April 1st. This indie-rock band has becoming popular fast over the last few years, with three albums out. This band consists of Nathan Willet (vocalist/piano/guitar), Jonnie Russell (guitar, vocals,keyboards), Matt Maust (bass guitar), and Matt Aveiro (drums, percussion).Their debut album, Robbers & Cowards was released in 2006, followed by their second album, Loyalty to Loyalty, released in 2009. 


Their latest album, Mine is yours, released this year, has become very popular, and currently they are touring the United States. The tickets for April 1st went on sale a few months before, at only $18 and sold out almost immediately.


They have grown a fan base especially within teenage audiences.  Marissa Hansen, student at LASA high school says , "They are a good band, and they are able to mix different sounds in their music very well, and it comes out as a very good blend. There is something in it for everyone-- they're a very likable and unique group."

Upcoming Movies; Titles to look out for

2011, the big year, one year away from 2012. So for all of those who believe the world is coming to an end here is what you can expect from the cinema before you go.  One big Film that many people are looking forward too is of Course Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II. This Film will wrap up Harry’s adventures as he tries to defeat the infamous Lord Voldemort. Coming out July 15^th 2011, buy your tickets early because this movie will be packed.  Another movie to be on the lookout for includes a Disney’s PROM coming out April 29th. This movie will show the intersecting lives of several high school students leading up to the big dance, Prom. This movie is a good choice for friend night or couples night. No tissues needed, although it looks very sweet.  One last movie I would like to mention is The Hangover 2. From the love and laughter of the first Hangover this movie is sure to be a hit.  Can this movie live up to the glory of the first is something you will have to decide May 26^th.  In addition to these some other movies to look for include: Kung Fu panda 2, Pirates of the Caribbean; On stranger tides, Cars 2, Water for elephants, and yes Paranormal activity 3. Wanna' take a picture with Justin Biebers Hair!?

While surfing on the web of what I can do to help Japan in their time of crisis, I saw the most bizarre thing. In order to help Japan you can take a picture with Justin Bieber’s Hair. Stone Rose which is a men’s apparel has the hair on loan from Golden Palace. The event will take place on March 29, 2011 in Miami, FL. Fans will get to take a picture of Bieber’s hair in order to raise money for the Japan relief, For the first fifty people that make a donation will receive a Justin poster. Justin Bieber’s hair was auctioned for $40,668 and gave a lock to Ellen DeGeneres for her birthday. The money from his hair that was auctioned off was donated to an animal rescue origination. Most businesses, celebrities, and major corporations are fundraising money to help victims in Japan. To take a picture with Justin Bieber’s hair is one of the weirdest yet creative ways to fund money. Justin Bieber recently cut his hair and many teens were surprised because it has become a fashion icon of Bieber fans. Justin Bieber’s hair has become popular ever since he became famous and apparently girls go crazy for it, I don’t know why.

What has happend to Charlie Sheen?

Last week, every time I turned on my radio the first news report had something to do with Charlie Sheen. The war with Charlie Sheen and CBS has been the most talked about feud in entertainment. Charlie Sheen, the highest paid TV actor and the main star on CBS's hit TV show Two and Half Men. Apparently, CBS's writer of Two and Half Men, Chuck Lorre, and Charlie Sheen had tension between each other before. Charlie Sheen said that Chuck Lorre would call him names during rehearsals. Charlie Sheen refused to go to rehab after CBS instructed him. CBS halted production for the rest of the season. After CBS halted production and Charlie Sheen was not Cooperating, CBS terminated Charlie Sheen. A war started and Charlie Sheen was furious calling his co-star names and telling the media what CBS's writer Chuck Lorre had done in the past. After days I knew something was going to be on the news about Charlie Sheen or CBS. Charlie Sheen’s life was breaking. Losing his publicist and kids after CBS terminated him.  After CBS terminated him there were rumors about replacing Charlie Sheen on Two and Half Men. Charlie Sheen responded by saying that no one can replace him on the show. After weeks of his drama life he apologized to his co-star. Lately, there have been rumors that CBS wanted Charlie Sheen to return to Two and Half Men. In my opinion I think that they should close the show, and it was a great 10 year run.

SXSW 2011-- The Strokes!

The anticipation for SXSW to begin has been building up, and today, March 11th, it is finally beginning. SXSW goes from March 11 through March 20th, with art, film, and over 2,000 live music shows. On March 17-19th there are free bands playing at Auditorium Shores, for all ages. One of the bands that most people have been anticipating is The Strokes, who will be playing March 17th Thursday night at 8:00. They will be presenting their new album Angles, that will be released March 22nd.
The Strokes started out in 2001 releasing their debut album, This is it (2001-2003), followed by Room on fire (2003-2005), First Impressions of the Earth (2005-2008) and finally their much anticipated album, Angles (2009- Present).

Movies; The ability to Inspire

Why do people love movies so much is a question some find themselves frequently asking. Since the first movie came out in 1877 movies have been all the rage. People developed a new kind of addiction to movies. For some going to the movies is a sort of ritual. Because you were brought up going to the movies, you start to believe that you should continue this tradition into adulthood. For others the movies they go see cater to an unfulfilled fantasy they never got to achieve. Over the years movies have provided a sort of haven for people.  Movies allow people to see the happiness, sadness, or drama of someone else’s life, which sometimes helps them feel better about their own lives. Also, movies have the ability to inspire people to go out and do the things they never got to do. Many celebrities today admit that there is that one movie that inspired them to become actors or singers or dancers.  Movies also have the ability to teach. They teach people not to settle for anything short of yes. If you have a dream you should work your hardest to achieve it. Although not all movies inspire or teach they can still help people. You might be in a really sad mood and you go and see a movie that totally lifts your spirits. No matter a movies purpose you never know the effect its going to have on someone. Movies relax the mind, and I think all of us owe thanks to the directors of our favorite movies for giving us entertainment and taking us out of our not so perfect world.
